In medieval times, glues were much weaker and the fletching on arrows generally had to be bound on.
Binding at the nock can stop the shaft breaking. It’s rare, but it’s something that actually happened last weekend at practice (not to me, it was someone else’s self-nocked arrow without binding).
I didn’t make this arrow, but I did make some many years ago and want to do it again soon.
