Why is it magic?
It has both infra-red for standard remote functions and Bluetooth to act like a mouse pointer on the screen. It also can do voice commands over the Bluetooth, but not reliably enough to bother with (maybe that’s just me).
Replacement
When the magic remote that came with the TV broke, there were a few options and a range of prices. All the remotes looked like the original, but on closer reading there were some differences. The cheapest only had the infra-red functions, which would be sufficient, but annoying. The mid-priced models come with a Bluetooth dongle and reviews indicating varying levels of success. In the end I bought a genuine replacement. It synced with one button press and worked perfectly. It even remembered the pre-programed buttons, which were presumably stored on the TV.
